History:

LTK College was established on 22^nd August 1977 with only an arts stream at the initiative of the local people. In 1994, the Science stream was established with the demands of the present modern age. The local people were encouraged to open the science stream in spite of economic paucity in the institution. In 1994 Science stream offers two years of higher secondary certificate courses in six subjects and established a three-year degree course in 1996 with the permission of Dibrugarh University. The Science stream was provincialized under the New Assam College Provincialization Act 2013 w.e.f. 14/08/2013. From 2006-2007 Botany department started the major course and was able to show good results. Since the establishment of the major subject in the botany department 13 batches have successfully completed B.Sc. in Botany Major with 1^st Class and 2^nd class. The pass percentage of our department was good. Some of our students completed P.G. Course and completed State Eligibility Test (Life Science). One of our students pursuing a Ph.D. at Cotton University in the Department of Botany.

Botany Department has an Orchidarium with 40 orchid species having medicinal value. This Orchidarium was established in 2016. In 2014 one medicinal plant garden with 64 numbers of plant species was established. Orchidarium and medicinal plant garden are the beauty of the Botany department. It is the use of plants for medicinal purposes and the uses of such uses.

The vision of our department is to conduct innovative research, teaching and outreach on the patterns and processes of life with a focus on plants and their environments.
