History:

The sociology department L.T.K College came into bringing in 1977 i.e in the same year of establishment of the college. Since then, the department has been offering a pass course in the degree program with only one faculty member, Mr. Hembor Deva Sharma serving on an honorary basis. After that in 1983, another faculty member was appointed on an honorary basis named Mrs. Kalpana Gogoi. However, the college was brought under the deficit grant-in-aid by the Assam govt. in 1987 and the post of both the teachers was sanctioned. After a few months of bringing the college under the deficit grant-in-aid system, the senior lecturer, Mr Hembor Deva Sharma shifted from the college and was the only later lecturer left in the department who has been serving alone till the joining of another lecturer, Mrs Suravi Gogoi in 1992. The major course was offered with effect from 1993-94 sessions on getting permission from Dibrugarh University. In 1994 another faculty member named Mrs. Runali Goswami was appointed to a non-sanctioned post. After that in 1995, one more faculty member named Mr. Badan Kalita was appointed against a non-sanctioned post and thus the total no. of faculty members increased to four. The four teachers had been imparting their knowledge until in 1999, Mrs. Suravi Gogoi left the department leaving with only three members, one in the sanctioned post and two in a non-sanctioned post. In 2002 the post of one member that is Mrs. Runali Goswami was sanctioned. These three teachers were serving in the college till in 2013, Another faculty Mr. Birandra Nath joined the department on a contractual basis and served till 2015. In the same year, Mrs. Monurupa Chutia joined the department and served till 2016. In the same year 2016, Mrs. Tarali Das and Nasheet B. Hussain joined the department on a contractual basis and served till 2017. In the year of 2018, Mrs. Manju Devi joined the department on a contractual basis and serving in the college to date and in the same year, Mrs. Sangita Saikia joined the department on a contractual basis in 2019. In 2019 Miss Jyoutshana Phukan joined the department contractual basis serving in till the date. The four members are presently serving in the department i.e two no's of faculty regular basis and another two no's on are a contractual basis.
